Galacticos have one hand on the trophy
It was always going to be a tough match for home team against the high flying Galacticos, as they went 2-0 down with wins from Paul Harris and Gary Wallace. Stevie Hamilton grabbed the 3rd frame for Trojans, but it was the Greenisland men who took a 6-1 lead at the half way mark, with wins from Roger Smyth twice, Derek Whiteside and Ali Wilson.
The second half began with a nice finish from Trojan Girvan Fleming, but Galacticos stretched their lead with wins from Gary Wallace twice, Roger Smyth (break and dish) and Ali Wilson. The final 2 frames were shared by Andy Quinn for the home team and Paul Harris for the visitors. Best of the night were Gary Wallace and Roger Smyth, both winning 3/3. Final Score Trojans 3 Galacticos 11.

Bay City Bowlers Get Their First Win...Ever!
Q Club entertained defending champions Scorpions on Tuesday night in what turned out to be a cracker of a battle. Both teams put out strong panels and it was the Larne men who got themselves into a 3-1 lead courtesy of messers A Johnston, R Scott and R McKillop. However the champions are made of stern stuff and a 5 frame blitz in the middle of the match saw them take a commanding 6-3 lead. However Q Club got back to a unlikely 6-6 with another 3 frames in a row, shout to Ryan Scott who completed a fine double and Andrew Ferguson who came in from the cold in frame 11 to take out a very good 5 ball clearance. With the champions toiling and knowing they could ill afford to lose anymore ground to the Galacticos, it was Darren Whiteside who stepped up in frame 13 with finish of the match with a 1 visit finish. There was still work to do in the final frame and for a moment it looked like Ian McCalmont would snatch the hosts a draw however an unfortunate kick gave Chris Carson the one opportunity he needed and Carson took out a precision 6 ball clearance to keep the champions alive in the SKC Gaming Carrick and District pool league.
The first frame was nip and tuck. Chris McCurry snookered himself on the black and got out of it well before league veteran Paul Harris bumped in a huge long red to leave himself a couple of tap ins to give the Galacticos the lead. Colts’ Colin Beckinsale was unfortunate not to respond with a break and dish after kicking out the black a smidgen too far. A kick cost Gee Crawley a clearance and Colin equalised. Roger Smyth held his nerve in a testy affair before another tight frame went the way of the Galacticos giving them a 3-1 lead. Aaron Watters hung the black for a reverse dish in the next but League champion Gary Wallace failed to capitalise and the Colts pulled one back. Roger Smyth took the last in the first session to give the Galacticos a 5-2 half time lead. Old Man Harris put the Galacticos further ahead with another cagey win before Roger Smyth eliminated the Hawk's nemesis Joseph Patton after three hours and forty seven minutes of textbook pool to put the Galacticos on the hill. Gee Crawley took out a pinpoint finish to give the Galacticos all three points in the next. Colts rolled out three of the last four but, alas, it was too little too late for Colts but enough to cement top spot for the Galacticos.
The Blues welcomed the Trojans to the Railway Bar on Tuesday night! Trojans started well winning the first two frames Ricky Moulds and Andy Quinn giving them the lead. Sammy Duff and Graham Cahoon made it 2-2 but it was the Trojans who lead 4-3 at the break. Wins from Girvan Fleming and Ricky Moulds for the Trojans and Robin Kerr for the Blues.
After the break Ricky Moulds made it 3/3 for himself with another clever finish. The game ebbed and flowed with the trojans staying in control for the majority of it. Wins from Robin Kerr and Robert Craig made it 6-5 with 3 frames to play but the Trojans turned it on winning all three, Steven Hamilton, Gordon McCormick and Girvan Fleming securing the 9-5 victoryIn other matches

Galacticos in pole position for the final run in
The league leaders, The Times Bar Scorpions took on Whitehead’s Spartans. Mark Millar took the first frame and Robert Hawkins took the next for Spartans. Paul Kerr reduced the deficit before Trevor Whiteside made it 3-1. Scorpions’ Colin Rafferty brought the arrears back to one before Robert Hawkins and Mark Millar saw the first session out to a 2-5 lead for the Spartans.
Scorpions came out in the second half with a steely determination with wins for Paul Kerr, Lee McIlreevy and Chris Carson to level at 5-5. Spartans are renowned for their fighting spirit and captain Trevor Whiteside put them back in front. Mark Millar made it 5-7 winning his 3rd of the night against Paul Kerr, leapfrogging Paul to the top of the player stats and knocking Scorpions from their perch at the top of the league. Scorpions dug deep once more though. Colin Rafferty and Chris Carson took the final frames securing a hard fought 7-7 draw and a valuable 2 points.
The Greenisland Colts got off to a flying start after reaching the final of the Players Memorial Shield last week. Vice Captain, Colin Beckinsale, took the first frame against Q Club’s Ryan McKillop, Larne singles champion.
The Colts would also go on to win the next 4 frames in a row with victories Colts Andy Galloway, Aaron Watters, Chris McCurry and Captain Harry Warwick taking the score line to a perhaps unexpected by some it must be said 5 nil lead for the Colts.
The Q Club would dig deep however with Ryan McKillop taking the 6th frame.
This attempt to kick start the Larne team would be stalled once more however by a 7th frame win for Colt Watters against Q Club player Ryan Scott, finishing the first half with a score line of 6 - 1 to the Colts.
The second half begun more favourably for the visiting Larne team with wins for Ryan McKillop and Ciaran O'Toole.
Greenisland Colts’ McCurry would go on to win the next securing at least a draw.
This seemed to inspire Watters to immediately win the next seeing Colts over the finish line and this also giving him an impressive 3 wins from 3 games played.
Captain Warwick took victory in the next and Chris McCurry took the next, winning a personal 3 from 3 for his team on the evening before Joe Patton took the final frame victory bringing the score line to an impressive Greenisland Colts 11 Q Club 3. A great night of pool enjoyed by all.
Greenisland Working Men's Social Club will have been in a celebratory mood when they heard the scores from the top two teams.
QE2 Cubs went down to a 4 - 10 defeat by a very impressive Galacticos who moved to the top of the league with that result leapfrogging Times Bar Scorpions.

Galactico's Gary Wallace Whips Them All To Lift The Title
On a day when storm Kathleen was whipping up winds across the country it was Galacticos' Gary Whirlwind Wallace who was whipping his opponents throughout the day.
Gary took on last year’s seniors finalist, Davy Blair in the first round and romped to a 5-2 win.
In the next round Gary took out Northern Ireland International player, Stevie Quinn 5-1.
Next up was a 5-2 victory over one of the most decorated players in the Carrick League, Paul Harris.
The 22/23 champion, Chris Carson was Gary’s opponent in the semi final and he was dispatched 6-4. The final was against Scorpions' Lee McIlreevy and Gary was in control for the entire match.
The final score was 7-5 and Gary got over the line potting the black to the middle pocket from a snooker.
A massive well done to Gary Wallace on lifting the open singles with a near perfect days pool.
The league committee would like to thanks Alex and William Irvine for their hosting and sponsorship of this prestigious individual’s event.

Scorpions lift the Prestigious Players Memorial Shield
In a raucous atmosphere the random draw occurred and Joe Patton half heartedly lagged stating that “You can never pot a ball from the break on this table”.
Scorpions’ Lee McIlreevy broke and potted 3 balls before ripping the rest out in a scintillating break and dish top put the Champions 1 up.
A big thanks to the Legion, Rab Butler and Mark Porter for ensuring the table was fit for a final and a special mention to the Scorpiettes who turned up to cheer on their men.

Cubs and Galacticos peak in time for international duties
A big win for the Cubs, just peaking before they go on a tour of duty to the nations cup in Bridlington next week. An even bigger win for the international studded Galacticos too. Scorpions come through a tough battle to remain at the top for the international break.
Second frame saw McKillop take out a good finish. Kyzler Todd would pinch a frame then Jack Carson went in off for a break and dish 2-2 cubs took the last 3 frames to lead 5-2 at the break. Second session would start off well for Cubs with a dish from Rhys McLaughlin with his second on the night and then the next 2 frames would be shared at 7-3 and Andrew made it 7-4 but cubs won the last 3 frames to close out the match 10-4 star players on the night Riley Patterson 3/3 and Rhys McLaughlin 3/3.
Greenisland Galacticos can almost taste second spot as the season gets down to the business end and the perennial bridesmaids were in the mood to consolidate their league position as they entertained the Bay City Bowlers.
The home team raced to a flattering 12-0 lead very quickly, capitalising on almost every visit awarded to them.
Hat tricks for Gary Wallace and Roger Smyth along with braces for Neil McFaul, Paul 'Old Man' Harris and Derek Whiteside gave the Greenisland men an unassailable lead with some pinpoint finishing. The visitors rallied late on and Ryan James-Ward and Ian McMillan took the last two frames but it was too little too late for the Carrick men who found their hosts in good form.
Rab & Big Ts Rockets hosted Scorpions
Scorpions started well with Lee McIlreevy and Paul Kerr taking the first two frames. Buff managed to pull one back for the Rockets, only for Lee and Darren to increase the gap to 4-1 to the visitors. The Rockets fought back though with two good wins, Bull and Davy with wins against Paul and Chris, resulting in a respectable 4-3 score line with the visitors having a slight advantage.
The Scorpions came out swinging in the second half, with each of the five men recording wins in the first five frames, 9-3 Scorpions, taking the opportunity for a bonus point off the table for the Rockets. The last two frames went to the Rockets with wins from Rab and Buff, to finish the match 9-5 to Scorpions.
After a valiant effort from the Rockets in the first half, the Scorpions were just too good in the second half and got their well deserved win.
Man of the match - Lee McIlreevy with a good hat trick.
The Colts travelled to Whitehead Rangers to play The Spartans who started strongly with wins for Mark Millar, Paddy Graham, Billy Pawson and a brace from Robert Hawkins. A break and finish from captain Trevor Whiteside and a reverse clearance from Mark Millar saw the Spartans complete a first half whitewash. The Colts didn't let the score line discourage them and produced a spirited second half performance, winning it by 4 frames to 3. Harry Warwick rolled back the years and won 2 of the frames which included a reverse clearance from a dry break. Other point scorers for the Colts were Aaron Watters and Joe Patton. A 10-4 victory for the Spartans on the night keeps them 3rd in the league table with plenty of points still to play for.
The Trojans Ricky Moulds took the first frame against Tigers’ Tom McGurk and Aaron Farr doubled the lead beating John Fulton.
Tigers' Steven Simpson beat Andy Quinn to reduce the deficit to 2-1, however another two for Trojans with Stephen Hamilton beating Davy Montgomery and Stephen McLaughlin beating Johnny Eccles. Trojans led 4-1 at this stage.
Scott Pettigrew beat Girvan Fleming and then a break and dish for Tom McGurk over Aaron Farr left the score at 4-3 at half time.
The second half began similar to the first half, wins for Andy Quinn and Ricky Moulds over Steven Simpson and John Fulton made the score 6-3 to the Trojans.
Tom McGurk reduced the gap to two frames with a good clearance to beat Stephen Hamilton, but Aaron Farr restored the 3 frame advantage with a win over Scott Pettigrew to put the Trojans on the hill at 7-4.
Controversy in the next frame where the departed Ricky Moulds had been listed to play Johnny Eccles! the frame handed to the Tigers by default. Could the hosts win the last 2 frames to secure a draw??
This hope was shortlived with a fine clearance by Stephen McLaughlin over Davy Montgomery to give the Trojans the victory.
The evening rounded off with a fine win for Steven Simpson over Girvan Fleming to at least give the Tigers a losing bonus point.
Result 8-6 to the Trojans, but as always a great nights craic down at the Times Bar.
Wednesday 6 March 2024
Scorpions Go Top... for now.
With league leaders, Galacticos postponing their match this week against Trojans, the reigning league champions, Times Bar Scorpions had an opportunity to leapfrog them if they secured all 3 points against Railway Blues.
In the first half Gerry McCrorry and Lee Mcilreevy notched up two each One of Lee's was a break and dish. Darren Whiteside, Paul Kerr and Chris Carson chipped in too to make it 7-0 at the interval. Lee McIlreevy soon made it 8-0 securing fine personal hat trick. Paul Kerr made it 9-0. Darren Whiteside and Chris Carson also chipped for their hat tricks. Robin Kerr took a solitary frame for the Railway Blues in a convincing 13-1 win as the Scorpions move back to the top of the table.
The Bowlers hosted the Q Club, and it was the visitors who swiftly took the lead with a well-deserved 7-0 advantage at the break. Despite the hosts' efforts to mount a comeback in closely contested matches after the break, their endeavours were futile, and the visitors emerged as deserving winners. The event was conducted in good sportsmanship; however, it became evident that the Bowlers require additional practice and experience to compete with top-tier teams. Bowlers extend best wishes for their forthcoming matches.
The Tigers got off to a good start winning 5 of the first six games. With the score at 7-2 The Rockets To Be clawed their way back to make it 7/5 but Scott Pettigrew grinded out the 13 frame to secure the points for the Tigers. Mark Porter won the last game to give the Rockets a bonus point. This was a great match by both teams, man of the match was Tom McGurk who had a break and dish against Steven Campbell.
A bad night at the office for The Greenisland Colts as they were defeated by Rab & Big T's Rockets by 12 frames - 2.
Several of the frames were genuinely tighter than the score line would suggest and there were a number of excellent and very tactical frames played. This particular evening would favour the Rockets team by quite a margin with Colts Captain Harry Warwick and Colt Joe Patton winning a frame each for their team.

Q Club move up the table
Q Club were too strong for Colts in their home venue in Q-Club Larne for their rearranged match.
Joe Patton did however put the Colts in front but a flurry of wins for Alan Johnston, Ryan McKillop, Craig Johnston, Ciaran O'Toole and Ryan Scott saw the Q Club on five frames in quick fashion. Andy Galloway got the second for Colts. 5-2 at the interval.
The second half was much of a mirror image of the first with Galloway taking the 8th frame for Colts before another burst of frames for Q Club with further wins for Ryan Scott, Ciaran O'Toole, Ryan McKillop, Rorie McAllister, and Ian McAlmont. Chris McCurry won the Colts fourth frame of the evening. Final score Q Club 10 Colts 4.
This makes the league table look more respectable with no outstanding fixtures. Q Club move up to 5th (from 7th) and Colts remain in 8th.

Cubs give Scorpions a scare
The Carrickfergus Bowling Club played host to a match between the Bay City Bowlers and Rab and Big T's Rockets. The evening began favourably for the visiting team as Stephen Herron dominated, preventing Ian Riley from getting a shot on the table and securing a well-deserved win. Although the Bowlers managed to win the next game, Herron's return to the table showcased his class and precision once again. Despite some closer matches, the visitors led 6-1 at the break. The Bowlers rallied after the interval, scoring two wins, but their momentum was short-lived as the visitors ultimately triumphed 11-3. Congratulations to Rab, Tristan and the Rockets and best wishes for their upcoming games.
The Railway Bar Blues got off to a flying Scotsman start taking the first game of the evening before Colt Joe Patton evened things up in the second
The Railway team then continued their flying start by winning the next three until Colt Vice Captain applied the brakes briefly by winning the first halves sixth frame prior to Railway Blue Sammy Duff claiming the final frame of the first half
Seeing the Railway Men in a strong 5 - 2 position going into the second half
Colt Patton once again entered the signal box to switch the tracks in favour of the Colts with a win leading to the Colts steaming ahead taking the next 5 frames in a row with Beckinsale securing at least a draw for his team winning the evenings twelfth frame
Duff stoked the fire for the Railway men once again with a thirteenth frame win ensuring the evening came to the end of the line in nail biting fashion resulting with it must be said a fair seven each draw
Never was the saying a game of two halves more appropriate and for once Beckinsale has contained himself and not got too carried away with his write up/report of the evenings happenings
QE2 CUBS V TIMES BAR SCORPIONS
Michael Wilson began the match with Intent. A Thunderous break from Big Bertha saw 5 balls off the break and a convincing victory followed. Paul Kerr made it 2 nil to Scorpions. The Cubs rallied with 4 on the trot from Rhys McGlaughlin, Jude Dalrymple, Jack Carson and Joel Quinn. Paul Kerr took the last frame of the first set to stay within touching distance at 4-3. The second half began again with Scorpions taking the first two frames through Chris Carson and Michael Wilson before the cubs hit back again. Jack Carson and Jude Dalrymple put the Cubs back in front at 6-5 with some composed finishing. In the longest frame of the night Gerard Heaney had the upper hand before the patience and experience of Paul Kerr saw him level the scores again at 6-6. Darren Haddock took out a pressure finish to put te Scorpions on the hill and Michael Wilson broke the final frame again potting 5 yellows and soon claiming a tight victory. Final Score Cubs 6 Scorpions 8.

Whitehead Table 1
Some excellent pool played by all players. The highlight of the evening for those in attendance (Certainly by Colin) was Colin despite being severely put off and distracted by missing Love Island which was airing on television during the match and despite Joe Patton being an undisputed very talented 2023 pool masters finalist said cue sports excellence was made to look kind of ordinary to be honest as the Colts Vice Captain took the final frame of the evening with a by now signature flamboyant crossover show reel black ball finish once again reminding all concerned of exactly why he gained the "Fizz Bomb" handle awarded to him by highly experienced and renowned N.Ireland Pool player manager Derek Whiteside.

Whiteabbey Legion Rockets hosted Trojans.
The first half was going swimmingly for the Whitehead lads 5-0 Trojans. Rab Butler and Big T Scott Heyes stopped the onslaught though, closing the first session at 5-2.
The second session was a similar affair. The Trojans took the first five again, going 10-2 up, and with only Rab and Big T winning one each at the close of the second half, the match result was a convincing 10-4 for the Whitehead Trojans.
MVP was Stuart Kelly with a decent hat trick and Andy Quinn scored a good brace for Trojans.
Cubs welcomed Colts to QE2.
The Colts won the first 2 frames. The Cubs the next 2 frames. The Colts took the next 2 frames and again the Cubs took the next 2 frames to level at 4-4.
The highlight of the evening was a sublime show reel finish for the little ‘giant slayer’ Jude during his second frame of the evening.
No individual hero's on this particular evening (Perhaps with the exception of Colts Captain Harry Warwick (pictured) winning all 3 frames) but each team member from both teams digging deep, performing well and doing their bit for their team mates resulting in a fair 7 each draw.
The Cubs have been doing rather well recently but it would seem, after a win earlier in the season for the Colts and this a second leg draw, the Colts are somewhat of a bogey team for the young guns. A great friendly but very competitive evening of pool was in the end enjoyed by all.
Scorpions welcomed Bay City Bowlers to Times Bar. Lee McIlreevey got the ball rolling for Scorpions as they romped to a 7-0 lead at half time. Some of the frames could have went either way but the experience of the reigning champions assisted in them getting over the winning line in those tight frames. Darren Whiteside secured the win in the eighth frame and the Scorpions continued winning the tight frames. Michael Wilson won the 14th frame with a whitewash to secure a flattering 14-0 victory.
The Q Club and Times Bar Tigers played
out a competitive match in the Q Club on Tuesday past with the Larne men just
about coming out on top. A strong start from Q Club certainly did help as they
raced out to a 4-1 lead aided by impressive Tyler Mckee and Ryan McKillop
finishes.
However Davy Montgomery’s men don’t know the word quit and helped by a quickfire Tom McGurk double they narrowed the gap to 6-4. A special shout out to Tom who completed his hat trick from the first session and took out 2 finishes that many a fella would be proud off.
With the match poised at 6-4 Stevie Simpson was very unlucky with a dry break and was punished with an expert 7 ball finish from Ryan Scott. Ryan drawing on his years of experience on the Ultimate pool, blackball and International rules scene to deliver to the delight of the home support.
With Q Club guaranteed a draw it was left to Ian McCalmont to seal the three with another solid finish in frame 12. All in all a close but just about deserved home win.
The Q Club would also like to place their thanks to the doubles team of Gary Wallace and Paul Harris. Both lads kindly agreed to postpone their doubles match against Ryan Scott & Ryan McKillop after one of the Ryan’s took unwell on the day of the match. The match will take place this Monday night (29th Jan) at 7:30pm in QE2 Snooker Club in what’s sure to be a fine match.

The last time these two teams met, Trojans were victorious in the https://www.instagram.com/bmkitchendesigns/ Knock Out Cup.
Trojans’ again started well with Stuart Kelly and Ricky Moulds winning 2 of the first 3 frames. Lee McIlreevy secured Scorpions'. Chris Carson, Darren Whiteside, Paul Kerr and Lee McIlreevy gave the home side a 5-2 advantage at half time.
Chris Carson and Darren Whiteside soon put Scorpions on the hill at 7-2. Trojans’ Stuart Kelly ripped out a great finish under pressure before his team mate, Ricky Moulds cut in a good black to the middle only to see the cue ball rolling into the corner pocket and gifting Colin Rafferty the frame and Scorpions all three points. Paul Kerr, Darren Whiteside and Lee McIlreevy, with a break and dish, took the final three frames to maintain second place and touching distance with the league leaders.
MVP’s were Lee McIlreevy and Darren Whiteside winning 3/3.
Whitehead Spartans began 2024 with a home tie against the Times Tigers. The Spartans settled quickly and raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to wins from Mark Millar, Kenny English and Billy Pawson. Back to back reverse dishes from Trevor Whiteside and Aaron Rolston stretched the home teams lead to 5-0 before Mark Millar took his second frame of the evening to make it 6-0. Tigers captain Davy Montgomery dug deep to win frame 7 and ensure his team didn't succumb to a first session whitewash. The second session started better for the Tigers with a win for Tom McGurk. The Tigers mini comeback was short lived though as the Spartans won the last 6 frames through Aaron Rolston (×2), Billy Pawson, Trevor Whiteside, Mark Millar and Kenny English. The Spartans will be delighted with the manner of this victory and the Tigers may well put the score line down to only returning after the Christmas break. Special mention to Aaron Rolston who is now top in the race for player of the year having played significantly less frames than those closest to him. He boasts an excellent 100% record with 17 wins from 17 frames played in the league.
In a most enjoyable evening of Pool at Greenisland Working Men's Social Club there was a friendly but competitive match between the Bay City Bowlers of Carrickfergus and Greenisland Colts.
The Colts began well with a first frame win but the Bowlers quickly equalised.
The Colts took the next two prior to the Bowlers having a two frame winning streak to keep it a tight tense affair.
The Colts pulled away again with wins for Colin Beckinsale and Patton.
Tit for tat ensued thereafter before Vice Captain Beckinsale secured at least a draw for his team being the victor of the evenings eleventh frame.
The Bowlers Ryan James then held his nerve potting an excellent high pressure black to keep it close.
You quite literally could have heard a pin drop during said black ball shot.
However despite having a couple of key players absent through illness ultimately the depth of the Colts squad was enough to see them successful on this particular occasion as Colts players Paul Watters and Joe Patton won the final frames of the evening seeing their team over the finish line for their first match of 2024.
Q-Club Larne entertained the league leaders Greenisland Galacticos. Last seasons league and cup matches were compelling affairs with 3 games, a win each and a draw, so another close encounter was anticipated.
Galacticos rushed out of the blocks with a 4-0 lead in 20 mins, highlights included a Roger Smyth reverse dish. Q Club are known for their powers of recovery though and another looked on the books as the Larne men hit back with 3 in a row starting off with a Ciaran O’Toole win in the 5th frame
With frames 8 and 9 shared it was all to play for but this is where championships are won and lost and this might be the biggest 3 frames of the season for the Galacticos yet as Derek Whiteside, Ali Wilson and Roger Smyth got them over the line to take the match to 8-4 and the 3 points.
At the halfway point of the season it looks to be between the Galacticos and the defending champs, Scorpions with 2 points in it. A wildcard in the mix however could well be the Cubs who are 5 back but get better each passing week. All to play for in the second half.

Aaron wins the first trophy of 2024
Congratulations to Colts’ Aaron Watters (left) for winning the annual New Year's Day SKC Cup.
Aaron came through an impressive field of 22 players to take the coveted title and £125 cash prize.
He was 2-0 down to William McCann in the final but managed to hold his nerve to come back and win 3-2 in a tense affair.
William took £75 for his endeavours and Trevor Whiteside and Paul Watters received £30 each for reaching the semis.
A great day was had by all and the competition was played in a great spirit all day.

Galacticos Top The Christmas Tree
In the last league match before Christmas in the SKC Carrick & District Pool League the Galacticos ensured they are the star at the top of the Christmas tree with a great team performance to overcome Spartans 9-5 on Table 1 in Greenisland Working Mans Club.
On table 2 in Greenisland The Whitehead Trojans had a perfect start going 3-0 up with wins by Aaron Farr, Stevie McLaughlin and Stevie Hamilton. Their lead was soon eroded after the Greenisland Colts pulled 3 frames back thanks to some great pool from Andy Galloway, Chris McCurry and Joe Patton. Aaron Farr took frame 7, to give the Trojans a slim lead at the half way mark. The second half started like the first with 3 straight frames from the Whitehead guys, putting them on the hill at 7-3. Stevie Hamilton potted the 8 ball in frame 12, to secure the 3 points for the Trojans. A valiant effort by the Colts, gave them a much deserved bonus point as they took 3 of the last 4 frames. Best for the Trojans was Aaron Farr and Stevie McLaughlin, both with 3 out of 3. Best for the Colts was Chris McCurry and Joe Patton, who each scored a brace. Final score Trojans 8 Colts 6.
The support from Greenisland Working Men's Club was welcomed and the festive food was appreciated by all.
Third placed Cubs took on and Bay City Bowlers at the QE2 club in an intensely competitive match. QE2 Cubs started with a perfect 3-0 but faced a setback when a player lifted the white ball. This incident sparked debate as per the Blackball rules, which prohibits any player from lifting the white ball. In the spirit of Christmas The Cubs gifted the frame to The Bowlers. Despite the disruption, Bay City Bowlers managed to pull back another frame, but QE2 regained composure, concluding the first half with a 5-2 lead.
In the second half another Cub lifted the cue ball to clean it (mid frame) but the Bowlers chose not to accept this additional Christmas present. Despite some closely contested matches, QE2 ultimately secured a 10-4 victory.
Rockets 2B hosted the reigning league champions, Scorpions from Times Bar.
The Whiteabbey men started well with a sublime finish from Ricky Hill and an equally impressive finish from Mark Porter. Scorpions hit back with 5 frames on the trot. Two for Darren Whiteside and two for Paul Kerr. Michael Wilson ripped out a pinpoint break and dish too for the Scorpions to lead 5-2 at half time.
Rockets 2B’s John Rainey made it 5-3 plucking victory from the jaws of defeat before Paul Kerr kick started another four frame flurry with a fabulous break and dish for his hat trick. Michael Wilson, Colin Rafferty and Darren Whiteside added to the Scorpions haul. Stevie Campbell took a consolation frame for Rockets 2b before Michael Wilson rounded off a solid 10-4 victory to maintain touching distance with the league leaders. Scorpion's three wise 'Hat-Trick Men were Michael Wilson, Darren Whiteside and Paul Kerr and Lee McIlreevey was the Christmas star for Rockets 2b.
Rab & Big T's Rockets moved up to 5th in the table with a convincing victory over Tigers at Times Bar. The visitors from Whiteabbey Legion came out swinging and finished the first half 7-0 up.
The Tigers started with their first frame on the board by Scott Pettigrew. Up next was Andy Arbuthnot and with his 2nd single visit finish, it was a clinical B&D that got the Legion lads over the line 8-1 up. The Rockets lost only one more frame with Johnny Eccles recording the Tigers second winning frame.
The result was 12-2 to the Rockets.
Man of the match was Andy Arbuthnot with two Break and Dishes and an eight ball clearance.
Rab Butler also recorded a hat trick and Stephen Herron a brace.
Q Club moved up to 6th in the league with a hard fought victory over Railway Blues winning 5-9.
The Carrick Pool League would like to thank our league Sponsors, SKC Gaming for the ongoing support, the sponsor of the Knock Out Cup, BM Kitchen Designs and Amber Castle Entertainment for sponsoring the Harbour Cup.
The first event of the year is Subway Hangover Cup on New years day at 1pm in Greenisland Working Men's Social Club. Everyone is welcome. You don't even have to be registered in the league to play in this one. Its a great day out for a cure.

Colts Back To Winning Ways
In the Carrick & District Pool League sponsored by SKC
Gaming NI, the Times Bar Derby had saw reigning league Champions, Scorpions facing
stablemates Tigers. Darren Whiteside made a rare start and finished with a
great long red and black in off his opponent’s yellow. Lee McIlreevy soon made
it two and Chris Carson made it 3-0 to the reigning champions. Scott Pettigrew
pulled one back for Tigers with a pin point finish before Scorpions reeled of
another 3 on the bounce with wins for Paul Kerr, Colin Rafferty and another for
Chris Carson.
Tigers started the second half with John Fulton taking
control and finishing well to begin the come-back. Lee McIlreevy put the
Scorpions on the hill with a blistering finish. Paul Kerr soon secured the
points. Scott Pettigrew took another frame for Tigers before Paul Kerr reached
his hat trick. Darren Haddock chipped another in for the Scorpions with a great
long black. Tigers 'MVP', Scott Pettigrew, took the final frame and secured a
hat trick of his own.
Final score Scorpions 10 Tigers 4.
Rockets To Be’s John Rainey took the sixth frame 5-1. H
Warwick gave his team a 6-1 lead at the break.
First up in the Second half making her first outing for the
Colts was Zoe Galloway. She was unlucky and Darren McFarlane took it.
Joe Patton put the Colts on the Hill before H Warwick made
his hat trick and secured the points for the Colts.
Aaron Watters extinguished any chance off the Rockets To Be
earning a bonus point. A Galloway took the twelfth frame securing his hat
trick.
The icing on the cake had to be (player of the match) Zoe
Galloway’s black. It was like something you would see on the ultimate pool tv
channel. She must have been watching Colin ‘The Fizz Bomb’ Beckinsale, giving
her a 50% win ratio for the season. Mark Porter got a consolation frame making
the Final Score 11-3
What a performance from the Colts back to winning ways with
the biggest win of the night.

Against the odds Colts Captain Harry Warwick and Vice
Captain Colin Beckinsale were Victors with just the 2 of them to compete in
Tuesday evenings 3 a side competition against The Bay City Bowlers 3 man team
.. A great result for the Greenisland Colts despite their 3rd team member being
absent . Doing it the hard way Warwick lost the first frame meaning they
couldn't afford to concede another frame for the remainder of the match however
although somewhat of a tall order they both battled on to successfully proceed
to the next round of the Competition.
The 3 a side quarter finals take place on Tuesday 30th January.

Galacticos suffer their first defeat and Smyth Dodges any shots
The Bay City Bowlers travelled down to Whitehead, hoping for an upset against 3rd placed Trojans. However, the match started well for the hosts with the first 3 frames taken by Stevie Quinn, Ricky Moulds and Aaron Farr. The next 4 frames were shared to make it 5-2 at the half way mark.
The second half started with another 2 frames for the hosts,
to put them on the hill. Max Riley won the next for the visitors, taking out a
great finish. Frame 11 saw big Gordy McCormick secure the 3 points for the
Trojans with some fine potting. Bowlers won the next 2 to make it 8-5 and were
fighting hard to secure a bonus and their first point of the season (if they
reached 6 frames). It was not to be. Trojan Gary Fitzimmons took out a great
finish in the final frame. Well done to Stevie Quinn, Aaron Farr, Ricky Moulds
and Gary Fitzimmons each winning 2/2 and to the Bowlers for adding to a
fiercely contested match. Final score
Trojans 9 Bowlers 5. This result moved Trojans up to 3rd place in
the league.
Railway Blues
hosted the Spartans. The visitors took
an early two-frame lead with wins from Mark Millar and Robert Hawkins. Sammy
Duff pulled one back for the Blues before Spartans went on a rampage taking the
next four consecutive frames. Wins from Paddy Graham, Trevor Whiteside, Mark
Miller and Kenny English. 6-1 Spartans at the break.
The Blues didn't let their heads drop and the late arrival
of Craig Laughlin got them the first frame of the second session. Ryan Stewart
and Sammy Duff quickly put another two frames on the board for the blues 6-4
with four frames to go. The Spartans then turned it on again, a third frame of
the night from Mark Millar took them to the hill before Trevor Whiteside
finished it off in style. With two frames to play the Blue only hope was of a
bonus point. Craig Laughin won his second of the evening leaving it up to Sammy
Duff. An excellent clearance with a very difficult black won Sammy his third
frame of the match and secured the bonus point for the Blues.
Another great evening of pool played in the correct manner. Railway Blues 6 Spartans 8
The Tigers
welcomed Greenisland Colts to the
Times Bar, with the Colts getting off to the best possible start with a win for
Andy Galloway over Scott Pettigrew.
The next four frames were shared with Johnny Eccles
completing a nice reverse dish over Paul Watters, Davy Montgomery beating Andy
Galloway, Aaron Watters beating Steven Simpson and Harry Warwick beating John
Fulton.
Tom McGurk beat Paul Watters and John Fulton beat Joe Patton
to leave the halftime score 4-3 for the Tigers.
The second half saw the Tigers put the foot down, winning
the first 4 frames with wins for Scott Pettigrew, Johnny Eccles, Steven Simpson
and Tom McGurk over
Aaron Watters, Harry Warwick, Joe Patton and Paul Watters
respectively. This guaranteed a win for the Tigers. Score 8-3
Aaron Watters beat Davy Montgomery and Harry Warwick beat Tom
McGurk to bring Colts to five and hopeful of an all important bonus point, but
in the last frame of the night John Fulton secured his second win of the night
over Joe Patton
Final Score 9-5 for
the Tigers
Q Club took on Rab and Big T’s Rockets
Rockets won the first session 5-2 taking advantage of missed
opportunities from the hosts this included a brace from Davey Blair at the
beginning of the session and the end. Highlight of the session was an
impressive six-ball clearance from Stephen Herron which included a bit of
development work on his reds which Stephen duly finished.
After the break Q Club went strong with McKillop and Johnston back to back 3 times and started well but this was ended on frame 9 with Andy Arbuthnot beating his team mate in Larne, Alan Johnston. Joint captains, Rab Butler and Tristan Scott Heyes, would seal the win winning the next 2 frames and the match would then play out to 4-10. Hat tricks from Davey Blair and Rab Butler moved the Whiteabbey men from to 5th and the Q Club dropping to fourth in the table.
QE2 Cubs had a great victory over Rockets to Be and moved up to 4th in the league table.
The Scorpions
arrived in Greenisland desperate to stop the runaway league leaders and take
the wind out of their sails. The message was clear "Stop Dodge and we can
win".
Stop him they did.
The first frame was an edgy affair with Lee McIlreavy edging
out Paul Harris to give the visitors the lead. Ali Wilson brought the home team
level with a great clearance before Johnny Nelson patiently edged the third.
The visitors went two ahead with Paul Kerr breaking and dishing against Roger
Smyth before Neil McFaul kept his composure to pull one back for the hosts.
Smyth was on the receiving end of another break and dish, this time from Nelson
before Gary Wallace won the next.
4-3 the visitors at half time.
McIlreavy completed a rare hat trick as he broke and dished
Smyth who didn't get a shot after playing in 3 frames of pool. Carson and Kerr
took the next two to guarantee the visitors a point before McIlreavy pulled out
his second break and dish of the evening to guarantee three points for the
defending champions and close the gap at the top.
League veteran Paul Harris earned the home team a much
needed bonus point with the fifth break and dish of the evening.
A fantastic match played at the highest standard blows the
league wide open.
